Chat with Marsh
One of the breakout stars of today’s melodic house scene, Thomas Marshall, better known as Marsh, has been quietly shaping an unmistakably warm and emotional sound that has won him fans around the world. Inspired by his teenage love for the lush trance sound of the early 2000s and the musicality of crossover drum & bass acts like Pendulum, Marsh blends these influences into a soulful signature style that feels both nostalgic and fresh.
Now with three studio albums in his discography, Marsh has released widely supported anthems that stream into the millions. He has put out music on respected labels like Spectrum, Anjunadeep, Armada, Last Night On Earth, Bedrock, Cercle, SHÈN and Warner Music, building a loyal global following along the way.
From iconic venues like Drumsheds and fabric in London to Brooklyn Mirage in New York, Space Miami, Hï Ibiza, Tomorrowland, Creamfields and more, Marsh stands among a new generation of DJs following in the footsteps of progressive house pioneers such as Eric Prydz and Sasha. His quarterly YouTube streams, filmed in stunning locations around the world, have attracted over 10 million views and keep growing his dedicated community of fans known as the Marshans.
At the heart of it all, Marsh shows an unapologetic passion for his craft. Full immersion, total dedication and a commitment that makes this much more than just a career. It is the realisation of a lifelong dream.
Marsh will play the Adventure Stage on Saturday 26 July. Ahead of his set we asked him four quick questions to get a glimpse into his off-stage world. Here is what he told us.
Q: After a show, what’s your go-to: the after party or cuddling your cats at home?
M: Depends on the people I’m with but I think most of the time I would choose cuddling my cats at home!
Q: What’s the most unusual location you’ve ever performed in?
M: That would have to be on a steam train in Wales!
Q: What’s your ultimate guilty pleasure song?
M: It would have to be Darude – Sandstorm! If I’ve played classic trance for the last hour of a set it is such a fun closer but I definitely feel a bit guilty for playing it!
Q: Have you ever had a laughing fit during a set? What caused it?
M: I haven’t had a full-on laughing fit exactly, but there was this one show in Belfast… I had a red button next to the decks that fired the CO2 cannons. My friend was with me, and during the big moments of the set, he’d hit the button to fire the CO2 and we’d both jump around like our team had just scored a goal in the World Cup!
Big thanks to Marsh for sharing these moments with us. We can’t wait to see him on the Adventure Stage this Sunday. If you haven’t got your ticket yet, this is your sign.
Marsh will be on the Adventure Stage on Saturday, 26 July. Make sure you’re there.
